Our Aim

Our aim is to build in Havana a landmark dance centre of international renown that will be a source of inspiration and learning to aspiring young dancers from around the world.

Our Objectives

  1. To rebuild and restore the School of Ballet in Havana as the Carlos Acosta Dance Centre
  2. To promote the Dance Centre internationally as a performance venue and training facility
  3. To utilise the Dance Centre for training young Cubans and others in dance

Our People

Our President: Carlos Acosta [pictured right]. Carlos has been described as the best male ballet dancer of his generation. He was born in Cuba and achieved the gold medal at the Prix de Lausanne at the age of 16. Since then he has thrilled ballet audiences around the world with his performances with all the world’s leading ballet companies. He currently performs with the Royal Ballet in London. Through his Foundation, he will create a legacy for generations.

Our Board

Rupert Rohan

Rupert is the Chairman of the Foundation. He is a lawyer with over 20 years’ experience providing legal and commercial advice to individuals and organisations in the entertainment industry. He is Carlos Acosta’s manager. Rupert is also on the board of and advises a number of other charities and has run his own legal practice since 1997.

David Caswell

David is an entrepreneur, commercial strategist and general manager with a track record in successfully delivering new products to market. David started his career in brand management at consumer goods company Unilever and went on to hold various marketing and commercial strategy roles at EMI Records, Walt Disney Television International and Telewest Broadband (now Virgin Media). More recently he served as CEO of interactive television platform provider, Electra Entertainment and CEO of online games company Brain Media

He is currently an investor and non-executive director in a number of innovative digital media businesses including leading mobile solutions group mxData and the UK’s number one tradesmen recommendation service, Rated People.

David is married with two children and spends his leisure time running through the Oxfordshire countryside and trying to be a better musician.

Robert Davage

Robert is an experienced accountant who has worked for a variety of businesses across a range of sectors, with an emphasis and preference for businesses in the arts sector.

He has been involved in advising businesses on their financial needs, structures and growth strategies as well as ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

He is married and spends his leisure time imbibing as much popular culture as he can stand.

Andrew Skipwith

Andrew is a serial entrepreneur with a passion for technology-enabled marketplaces. He currently supports a range of innovative businesses as a private investor and as a non-executive.

Most recently, Andrew founded Rated People, a home-improvement marketplace, which now matches over £1billion annual project value across its web and mobile platforms.

Andy holds an MA and MEng in manufacturing and management from Cambridge University. Prior to Rated People he worked as a roofer, a nuclear engineer and a strategy consultant.

He is married with three young sons and spends as much time skiing and sailing as he possibly can.

Our Governance

The Carlos Acosta International Dance Foundation was set up in 2011 as a registered UK charity (14142368) and a registered company (07495610).
